Let's get to know you a little better.

FYI, we'll use your email address to contact you about your application status and provide other important Useful School updates.
Our classes are currently for those 18+ years old and based in the U.S. If you are outside of this audience, apply anyway—we're expanding quickly and, given our rolling admissions, favor applicants who apply early.

Our classes are geared towards people of color. Please describe your cultural identity in as little/much detail as you'd like.

If there are any other aspects of your identity that you're like to share, please do so below.

What are 3 companies you'd love to work for in the next 6-12 months?

This will help us tailor the curriculum to you! If you'd like to start your own company or something similar, let us know as much/little info about that as well.

Describe your professional goals for the next 6-12 months, and how you'll achieve them.

Thought-starters: What's your ideal gig? What steps will you take to achieve your goals after you graduate from Useful School?

Who are 3 people of color you look up to professionally?

How did you hear about Useful School?

A friend, coworker, past student? Someone specific on LinkedIn? Insta handle? Article? Somewhere else?

Optional: Did another applicant refer you? If so, what's their name?

What lesson(s) and/or projects are you particularly interested in learning that are not currently in the curriculum?

What other resources have you used to learn skills? How have they failed you?

Examples could include specific online schools, workshops, books, articles, etc.

In addition to the weekly class, you'll spend around 10-15 hours a week for ~12 weeks doing Useful School work. Do you anticipate any barriers to committing to this? If so, how will you address those barriers?

How much money (either one-time or per month) will you be able to contribute to Useful School if you're accepted?

This is not a factor for acceptance, but it's important that you consider this prior to finishing your app. Contributions help us run US, offset the costs for folx who cannot pay, and much more. We typically recommend considering contributing 1-5% of your current salary, but everyone's situation is different!

Anything else you'd like to tell us?

Thought starters: Any special considerations we should know? Feedback for us?
By submitting your app, you agree to allow us or a partner publish any interesting, anonymous data (example: an article compiling the top places applicants want to work). We may contact and/or recommend you for potential projects (and to employers!) as well.
